Ans: These two tunes are totally different.
Differences:
1. DarbAr is popular in South Indian Music (CarnAtic Music). DarbArI is a different rAga popular in North Indian Music (HindusthAni Music).
2. DarbAr uses the tone stronger dhaivatam called 'catusriti' = the tone 'a'.
Hence it belongs to Mother tune No. 22 (mElakarta) kharapriya in South Indian Music. DarbAri uses lighter kOmal dhaivat of Hindusthani = the tone 'g#'. Its mother ThAT in Hindusthani is AsAvri. But Hindusthani AsAvri is different from South Indian AsAvri which belongs to Mother Tune 8 of CarnAtic Hanumat tODi. Hindusthani darbAri, because it uses kOmal dhaivat (suddha dhaivatam in SI Music), when have to classify in CarnAtic Mother Tunes, we may have to include it in Mother Tune (mELakarta) 20 i.e. naTabhairavi. South Indian darbAr, if we have to classify under a North Indian ThAT, we may have to include it in kApI ThAT.

Not that straight tunes are not un-sweet. It is difficult to sing or play straight complete (with all the 7 seven tones cdefgab both in ascendence and descendence, called sampUrNa rAgas) rAgas and get appreciation from audience who are less conversant with the territorial integrity and purity of such tunes. E.g. SankarAbharaNam and Hanumat tODi. The complete tune KalyANi is an exception and is regarded as rakti rAga (one which can be capable of getting appreciation). The non-rakti tunes test the capabilities of the singers and the players.
