RAG (Indian name for melodious tunes) bhOpAli (also called bhoop or bhUp) is a very popular rAg in North Indian Music, very sweet to listen.
It is pentatonic. In India, we call it auDav. Ascendant: c,d,e,g,a,c'. Descendant: c',a,g,e,d,c.
In the North Indian Music, it is considered as a derivative of the KhamAj group (khamAj thAT).
In South Indian Music (CarnATic Music) , rAg bhOpAli is called mOhana rAgam.
In South Indian Music, mOhana is considered as a derivative of the Mother Tune No. 28 hari kAmbhOji.
Listening exercises help us to gain svara gnAna (ability to identify notes immediately after listening). Hence I am providing this listening exercise.
